Pierluigi Poggiolini

Pierluigi Poggiolini is a Full Professor at Politecnico di Torino's Department of Electronics, affiliated with the School of Information Engineering. He leads the OptCom Group and holds roles including Vice-President of the ISI Foundation (since 2021) and past Board member of Politecnico di Torino (2016–2020). His research focuses on high-speed optical communication systems, nonlinear fiber modeling, and neural networks for transmission optimization.

Education: MS (1988) and PhD (1993), both from Politecnico di Torino. Postdoctoral work at Stanford University (1994–1995). Extensive industrial collaborations include CISCO Photonics, Huawei, and FiberCop.

Research interests include coherent systems at 1Tb/s, closed-form nonlinear models (GN/EGN), and hollow-core fiber applications. Awards include the 1998 Italgas Prize and IEEE/OSA Best Paper Awards (2011–2012). He served as Technical Chair for ECOC 2010 and coordinates European and national projects like FP6 e-Photon/ONE and TOSCA.

Publications: Over 300 papers (9000+ SCOPUS citations, h-index 41). Active in IEEE and OSA, including Fellowships (2018–2019). Current projects involve ultra-wideband systems, Raman amplification, and AI-driven impairment mitigation.
