Pieremanuele Canepa is the Robert A. Welch Assistant Professor in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Houston. He holds a PhD from the University of Kent and leads a computational research group focused on energy materials.
His work develops first-principles methods for discovering functional materials in energy storage/conversion, with emphasis on solid electrolytes for lithium/sodium/multivalent batteries. The Canepa Lab integrates high-throughput screening, machine learning, and kinetic modeling to advance battery technologies.
Honors include ACS Materials Au Rising Star (2022), RSC Fellowship (2021), and DOE Computing Leadership awards. Current projects examine ion transport mechanisms and interface stability in next-generation batteries.
