Pier Luigi Buttigieg

Pier Luigi Buttigieg is a Research Fellow at the HGF MPG Joint Research Group for Deep-Sea Ecology and Technology within the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (Bremen, Germany). His work integrates semantics, bioinformatics, and data analysis to mobilize ecological data and detect structural patterns in microbial ecology.

• Education: Training in biochemistry, cell biology, and marine microbiology.

Research Focus:
• Omics-driven bioinformatics and multivariate statistics for analyzing microbial ecology datasets.
• Environmental semantics through the Environment Ontology (ENVO) and Sustainable Development Goals Interface Ontology (SDGIO).
• Developing tools like GUSTAME to assist microbial ecologists in data interpretation.
