Phillip W Schnarrs is a Professor in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. He is an LGBTQ+ health scholar whose research focuses on HIV prevention, behavioral and mental health, and the impact of early life adversity on health outcomes in sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations.
His work includes developing the Sexual and Gender Minority Adverse Childhood Experiences (SGM-ACEs) scale as part of his Interdisciplinary Research Leaders Fellowship with The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He is currently funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to study SGM-ACEs and interventions for suicide prevention and chemsex harm reduction.
He has extensive experience in community-based participatory research, including directing the Texas PRIDE Collaborative. His research also addresses organizational trustworthiness in academic-community partnerships and the role of social stressors like stigma and discrimination in shaping health outcomes.
