Phillip Gingerich

Phillip Gingerich is a Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Michigan, and serves as Director of the Museum of Paleontology. His research focuses on evolutionary biology and paleontology, particularly exploring the rates and mechanisms of evolutionary change. In Fall 2009, he delivered a Saturday Morning Physics lecture titled How Fast is Evolution?, discussing Charles Darwin’s perspectives on evolutionary timescales and modern scientific advancements in this area. His work bridges geological and biological disciplines, contributing to understanding life’s history through fossil records.
