Philippe Zinck is a Professor at University of Lille in the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science and Technology. He is a member of the Catalysis and Molecular Chemistry unit, specifically working within the Catalysis and eco-compatible synthesis (CASECO) research group at UCCS (Unité de Catalyse et Chimie du Solide), a CNRS research unit (UMR CNRS 8181). His work bridges academic research with industrial applications through multiple collaborative projects.
Dr. Zinck's research focuses on catalysis for functional and biobased polymers, with particular emphasis on coordinative chain transfer polymerization (CCTP), chain shuttling copolymerization, and organocatalysis for ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters. His work explores the control of polymer microstructure, development of thermoplastic elastomers, and functionalization of biodegradable polyesters with carbohydrates and biomolecules. He has pioneered approaches for metal-free polymerization using organocatalysts, enabling biomedical applications without residual metal contamination.
Zinck's research outputs demonstrate strong trends in sustainable polymer chemistry, with increasing focus on biobased monomers, enzymatic polymerization techniques, and materials derived from renewable resources. His recent work shows sophisticated control over polymer architecture through chain shuttling techniques, creating multiblock copolymers with tailored properties for specific applications. The integration of computational methods (DFT) with experimental work represents another significant trend in his recent publications.
Dr. Zinck actively participates in multiple research collaborations and projects, including Interreg initiatives focused on thermoplastic elastomers (Elastoplast project) and polymeric materials based on microalgae. He serves on boards of professional organizations including the Société Française de Chimie (North Section Board), Groupe Français des Polymères (North Section Board), Marie Curie Fellowship Association (Advisory Board), and IUPAC.
He teaches Chemical Engineering and Biobased Polymers at the Chemistry Department of the Institute of Technology of the University of Lille, contributing to the education of next-generation polymer scientists and engineers. His laboratory collaborates with numerous European institutions including University of Mons, University of Ghent, KU Leuven, and University of Reims, as well as industrial partners across the region.
