Philippe Martin is a Full Professor at the Department of Economics at Sciences Po, serving as Dean of the School of Public Affairs. He holds a PhD from Georgetown University and has held roles such as Co-director of the Macroeconomics Program at CEPREMAP and Chairman of the French Council of Economic Analysis (CAE). His research focuses on international macroeconomics, trade, and military conflicts, with notable contributions to understanding sovereign debt dynamics and the Eurozone crisis. Recognized nationally and internationally, he received the Best French Young Economist Prize in 2002 and is a CEPR Research Fellow. His work spans empirical analyses of firm adaptation to energy shocks, fiscal policies, and the impact of trade imbalances on protectionism.
Research interests include the interplay between globalization and conflict, as well as the macroeconomic implications of financial crises. He has advised policymakers through roles at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Conseil d’Analyse économique. His recent publications address energy resilience, Eurozone bailouts, and post-pandemic firm survival strategies.
Key achievements include co-authoring influential works on economic geography and contributing to policy debates on European fiscal frameworks. He remains active in academic leadership, teaching international macroeconomics and shaping economic discourse through media engagements.
