Philippe FORO

Philippe FORO is a Lecturer in Contemporary History at Jean Jaurès University, Toulouse, and a permanent member of the PLH (Heritage, Literature, History) research unit. He has held administrative roles, including serving as a Board of Directors member (2006–2008), Director of the History Department (2007–2009), and President of the History-Geography Subjects Committee since 2010. He also coordinates accessibility initiatives for disabled students at the School of History, History of Art and Archaeology since 2014.

His research focuses on the political and cultural history of modern Italy, particularly the interplay between identity and ideology from the Unification period to the present. He also investigates how Antiquity was received in Italian cultural discourse during the 19th and 20th centuries, alongside the historical evolution of Catholicism in contemporary contexts. His doctoral thesis, Anti-Gaullism, Reality and Representations (1940–1953) (2003), reflects his expertise in analyzing socio-political movements.

FORO contributes to academic governance through roles such as member of the Editorial Board of Presse universitaires du Midi (since 2014) and leadership in university committees. His teaching and administrative work span secondary education (1985–1997), associate professorship at Jean Jaurès University (1997–2004), and concurrent lecturer positions at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse (since 2004) and Saint-Cyprien Seminary (since 2013).
