Dr. Philippa Warren is a Senior Research Fellow at King's College London, affiliated with the Wolfson Sensory, Pain and Regeneration Centre within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. She leads research focused on restoring respiratory and locomotor function following spinal cord injury (SCI) and neurological disorders. Her work combines innovative techniques to identify physiological mechanisms of injury and develop novel treatments for pre-clinical models.
Education: PhD (Cantab), BSc (hons), ARCS. She advocates for race equality in academia and actively collaborates with institutions like The Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University. Key areas of expertise include spinal cord injury mechanisms, oxygen transport kinetics, and glial integration in neural repair.
Her research themes emphasize chronic SCI recovery, with projects funded by Wellcome Trust, Brain Research UK, and others. Notable contributions include studies on neurotrophin-3 delivery via viral vectors and chondroitinase ABC's role in neural regeneration. She has presented at major conferences including the Annual Spinal Research Meeting.
Awards: 2018 Guarantors of Brain Travel Award and Trainee Professional Development Award. Current projects include evaluating chronic motor recovery circuitry and improving respiratory function post-injury.
