Philipp Wangner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Mannheim since September 2024. He previously held a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in the Economics Division at Columbia Business School. His research bridges macroeconomic theory with empirical analysis of inequality, fiscal/monetary policy, and stabilization mechanisms.
- Ph.D. in Economics from Toulouse School of Economics (2023)
His work focuses on household heterogeneity in macroeconomic models, particularly how wealth, consumption, and income inequality interact with policy design. He analyzes the tension between short-run stabilization and long-run growth implications of fiscal interventions and explores optimal taxation frameworks.
Recent publications address topics like the role of persistent demand shocks in monetary policy, wealth distribution dynamics, and global bank lending behaviors. His methodological innovations include tractable heterogeneous agent New Keynesian (T-HANK) models and analytical characterizations of fiscal multiplier effects.
