Philipp Staab is Professor of Sociology of Work, Economy and Technological Change at Humboldt University and Co-Director of the Einstein Center Digital Future. His research analyzes the intersection of digital capitalism, ecological crisis, and political legitimacy in contemporary societies.
He examines how digital platforms reconfigure economic power structures and the challenges this poses for democratic governance. Recent work investigates the compatibility of digital transformation with sustainability goals.
Key publications analyze proprietary market systems in tech industries and societal adaptation strategies during systemic disruptions. He argues that technological solutions often exacerbate ecological problems rather than solving them.
He leads projects on economic statecraft in digital industrial policy and comparative studies of digital-market regulation.
