Philipp Matthes is a Researcher at the School Research Group within the Institute of Educational Science at Ruhr University Bochum. He serves as a research associate in the DigiSchuKuMPK project (2023–2026), focusing on digitalization-driven school development in primary schools. Since 2017, he has worked as a research assistant at the university. His academic background includes a Master of Education (2023) in History & Politics, Economics & Society from Ruhr University Bochum and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Duisburg-Essen.
His research interests center on educational policy, digital transformation in schools, and systemic challenges in transitioning between primary and secondary education. He collaborates on initiatives like the BMBF-funded SchuMaS network’s Extracurricular Learning cluster and contributed to the G9-neu school trial monitoring. Matthes has presented widely on topics such as NRW’s educational system challenges and anti-poverty strategies in schools.
He actively participates in federally funded projects (e.g., DigiGO) and contributes to academic publications addressing educational inequality and crisis management in schooling systems.
