Philipp Koellinger is a Full Professor at the Department of Economics, School of Business and Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He also holds positions at Tinbergen Institute and Amsterdam Neuroscience. His research focuses on the genetic basis of economic behavior, replicability in empirical research, and applications of genomics in social science. He co-founded the Social Science Genetic Association Consortium (SSGAC), BIG BEAR Consortium, and the Externalizing Consortium. Since 2024, he serves as CEO of DeSci Labs and President of the DeSci Foundation, promoting open, FAIR scientific practices.
- Education: PhD in Economics from Humboldt-University Berlin (2005)
Research interests include metascience, social science genetics, behavioral economics, and entrepreneurship. He received the ERC Consolidator Grant (2015) and Netspar Topicality Grant (2018). His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health, education, and reducing inequalities.
Key publications focus on genome-wide association studies, polygenic prediction, and the genetic architecture of socioeconomic outcomes. He has supervised 4 PhD theses and is active in peer review for journals like Nature and JAMA.
DeSci Labs and Foundation initiatives aim to develop technologies for reproducible research, including blockchain-based tools for data sharing and validation. His research teams collaborate internationally, with projects analyzing brain structure, alcohol consumption, and diet composition.
