Philipp Höfele

Philipp Höfele is a Research Fellow at the University of Freiburg, currently serving as a member of the Young Academy for Sustainability Research (YAS) from October 2024 to September 2027. His career includes roles as Assistant Professor at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (2023-2024), postdoctoral researcher in the Cluster of Excellence liv MatS (2019-2021), and visiting scholar at Pennsylvania State University (2021-2023). He holds affiliations with Freie Universität Berlin and the International Schelling Society (board member, secretary) and co-edits the journal Schelling-Studien: Internationale Zeitschrift zur klassischen deutschen Philosophie.

His research focuses on practical philosophy, ethics of German idealism and post-idealism, and contemporary issues in nature-technology relations within the Anthropocene. Key themes include boundary formations in philosophy of nature, ethical implications of bioinspired technologies, and reinterpreting classical concepts for modern ecological challenges. He has published widely in journals like The Anthropocene Review, Allgemeine Zeitschrift für Philosophie, and Philosophical Psychology.

Philipp's work bridges historical philosophical analysis with applied ethics, emphasizing transdisciplinary approaches.
