Philipp E. Glass is an Associate Lecturer (Education) and Doctoral Researcher in the Department of Computer Science at Brunel University London, within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences.
His educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Brunel University London, where he was awarded the University Prize for achieving the highest grades in his graduating year. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the same institution.
Dr. Glass's research focuses on AI safety and robustness, particularly exploring alignment failures introduced by fine-tuning large language models and reasoning models, both for outcome supervision (RLHF) and process supervision (Chain-of-Thought reasoning optimisation). He also investigates activation vectors and feature vectors in LLMs, studying their stability, formation, and connection to activation steering-based interventions. His prior research includes work in bioinformatics, where he collaborated with the Computational Biology group to create the PyCoM database, and in cryptography, specifically zero-knowledge proofs for anonymised Proof of Personhood protocols and blockchains.
His scientific awards include:
- University Prize for achieving the highest grades in his graduating year (Brunel University London)
As an educator, Philipp Glass has taught a variety of courses including Introductory Programming, Logic and Computation, Data and Organisations, Algorithms and their Applications, and Usability Engineering. He has also supervised Level 4 & 5 Group Projects, Placement Supervisions, and Final Year Project Supervision.
