Prof. Dr. Philipp Altmann is a Professor of Sociological Theory at the Universidad Central del Ecuador since 2015. His research focuses on the dissemination of ideas, social movements, and the development of sociology, particularly in the context of Latin American indigenous traditions. He actively participates in interdisciplinary lectures, such as Friedensau Adventist University's 'Flourishing' series, where he discussed 'Buen Vivir'—a concept rooted in indigenous Amazonian and Andean philosophies challenging Western growth-centric paradigms.
Education: Studied sociology, ethnology, and Spanish philology at the University of Trier and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Completed his doctorate at Freie Universität Berlin (2013) with a thesis on Ecuador's indigenous movement and decolonial discourse.
Research emphasizes critical engagement with socio-ecological challenges and decolonial theory, exploring how concepts like 'Buen Vivir' inform alternative development models. His work bridges academic and activist circles, particularly in German growth-critique networks.
