Philip Ulrich is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Christ Church University, serving as Course Director for the BSc (Hons) Psychology program within the School of Sciences, Psychology, Arts and Humanities, Computing, Engineering and Sports. He leads the Cognitive, Developmental, and Neuropsychological Processes research theme and has held a permanent lectureship since 2019 after joining the university in 2017.
He holds a PhD in cognitive neuropsychology completed prior to his appointment at Christ Church University, transitioning from a technical team role to a Senior Research Fellowship before securing his current academic position.
His research program investigates olfaction's impact on human cognition, focusing on memory recall, attention, decision making, stress responses, and driving performance, while also exploring psychological effects of circadian rhythm disruptions. This work addresses critical gaps in understanding how sensory stimuli influence cognitive mechanisms, positioning olfactory psychology as a dynamic frontier in cognitive science.
Dr Ulrich supervises students across all academic levels including BSc, MSc, PhD, and DClinPsy candidates, and has contributed to EPSRC-funded research examining technology applications in outdoor play environments.
As research theme lead, he directs strategic initiatives in cognitive, developmental, and neuropsychological research within the Psychology department, shaping both curriculum development and collaborative research frameworks.
