Philip Nicholls is an Associate Professor at the School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences, Murdoch University, and holds an adjunct position at the University of Notre Dame Australia. His research focuses on veterinary pathology, histopathology, virology, and forensic science, with particular interests in taphonomy, microbial interactions with bones, and neuro-immune system interactions. He has contributed to understanding disease mechanisms in wildlife, such as the endangered western barred bandicoot, and has developed diagnostic tools for aquatic animal health.

His recent articles explore topics such as bone diagenesis in marine environments, neuro-immune interactions in lymphoid tissues, and forensic applications of microbial bioerosion. He has collaborated on projects addressing epizootic diseases in aquatic species and papillomavirus-associated tumors in endangered marsupials.
