Philip Kwong

Associate Professor Philip Kwong is an academic at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. He holds the position of Associate Head of School (Internationalisation). His research focuses on sustainable waste management, resource recovery from biomass, and circular economy strategies. Key interests include biochar production, biomass combustion, battery recycling, and environmental applications of functional materials.

Dr. Kwong has published over 60 articles in high-impact journals, with many in top-tier venues. He leads a research group equipped with advanced facilities such as continuous pyrolysis reactors, flue gas analyzers, and FTIR spectrometers. His work has been recognized through prestigious awards, including a Japan Society for Promotion of Science fellowship.

He has secured substantial grants, including $1.5M for his startup ByGen, which commercializes low-cost carbon materials from agricultural waste. His patents and collaborations with industries like wineries and timber processors highlight his applied research impact.

Teaching responsibilities include units like Process Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, and Biofuels. He actively supervises Higher Degree by Research candidates, fostering innovation in resource recovery technologies.
