Philip D’Anieri is a Teaching Professor in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He also contributes to the Program in the Environment within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. His teaching focuses on planning history and theory, regionalism, and planning politics.

D’Anieri's research examines the politics of planning at metropolitan scales, with a historical case study of Detroit and ongoing work on the history of the Appalachian Trail. His publications include two books that reflect these dual interests.
Scientific Contributions: His 2021 book The Appalachian Trail: A Biography explores the trail's development as a cultural and environmental landmark. Earlier research (2007) analyzed planning institutions in Detroit during a transformative 40-year period.
Education: Received his PhD in Urban and Regional Planning from Taubman College at the University of Michigan.
