Philip Di Salvo

Dr. Philip Di Salvo is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Media and Communications Management within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. His research focuses on investigative journalism, internet surveillance, and the intersection of journalism with hacking. He has held visiting fellowships at the London School of Economics and Harvard University, and previously worked at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI).

Philip earned a PhD in Communication Sciences from USI in 2018, with a dissertation on encrypted whistleblowing platforms in journalism. He has also taught at NABA - New Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, Italy.

As a freelance journalist, he contributes to publications like Wired, Motherboard/Vice, and Esquire, covering technology's social impacts. He is the author of two books on digital whistleblowing and serves on the board of DIG Festival, an international investigative journalism event.
