Dr. Phil Lee is a Professor in the Department of Radiology and Director of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Unit at the University of Kansas Medical Center, with cross-disciplinary affiliations in bioengineering. His research develops novel MRI and MRS techniques to study brain structure, function, and metabolism in aging, Alzheimer's disease, and multiple sclerosis. He holds a PhD in Biophysical Sciences and Medical Physics from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Lee's lab focuses on identifying mechanisms linking lifestyle interventions to brain health, understanding neurodegenerative pathology, and creating non-invasive biomarkers. His work employs diffusional kurtosis imaging to detect microstructural changes in multiple sclerosis and investigates metabolic alterations in diabetic brains.
He received the Frontiers Team Science Award and serves on committees for international neuroscience conferences. His recent publications emphasize metabolic imaging, exercise neuroprotection, and clinical trial design for Alzheimer's therapeutics.
