Research Interests: Dr. Bird explores oral microbiology in animals, particularly marsupials and koalas, investigating periodontal disease, bacterial pathogenesis, and immune responses. His work also addresses wildlife health challenges, such as chytrid fungus in amphibians and antibiotic efficacy in veterinary contexts.
Grants & Funding: Over 20 grants since 1995, including studies on CPP-ACP dental repellents, laser disinfection of root canals, and longitudinal microbial changes in children.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with veterinary and microbiology teams at UQ, focusing on wildlife and clinical applications of microbial research.
