Dr. Phil Barter is Associate Professor and Deputy Dean for Education in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education at Middlesex University. His research examines how technology enhances student learning experiences, progression, and achievement in higher education. Barter's PhD investigated 'Using technology to enhance learning, progression and achievement in Higher Education,' developing frameworks for technology integration that support student success without replacing face-to-face interactions.
Current research interests include feedback systems using technology, developing positive student cultures, personalized interactive learning systems, and digital literacies among staff and students. Barter contributes to postgraduate modules including Research Methods, Learning Technologies in Higher Education, and dissertation supervision. His practitioner-focused research includes studies on mobile devices in anatomy education and digital literacy development through situated practices.
Barter advances curriculum innovation through 'Authentic by Design' approaches that prepare students for evolving workforce demands. His scholarship informs institutional strategies for technology-enhanced learning and student support systems.
