- B.A., Williams College, 1989
- M.S., Cornell University, 1993
- Ph.D., Cornell University, 1998
His research focuses on metaphors, models, and myths in physics, alongside experimental studies of phonon scattering, low-temperature thermodynamics, and quasicrystal dynamics. Notable contributions include work on phonon diffraction gratings and thermal conductivity in thin films.
He has been consistently honored with SUA's Professor of the Year award from 2003 to 2012, reflecting his teaching excellence in courses like Heaven & Earth: A First Synthesis and Social Ethics.
His publications span Physical Review B, Journal of Low-Temperature Physics, and Annalen der Physik, emphasizing condensed matter physics and material science innovations.
