Petrea Taylor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Nursing. She holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies (2018), Master of Nursing (2002), and Bachelor of Nursing (1997), all from UNB. Her research focuses on gender, violence, and mental health, particularly exploring women’s help-seeking behaviors for suicidality following intimate partner violence through feminist methodologies like grounded theory and photovoice.
**Research Grants & Projects**:
- 2024: $9000 ResearchNB Summer Studentship (PI)
- 2024: $30,000 NB Innovative Foundation Research Assistant Initiative (PI)
- 2023: Co-I on a $700,000 CIHR grant studying cumulative violence in men
- 2022: Co-I on a $2M PHAC-funded implementation study on intimate partner violence
**Awards**: Recognized for teaching excellence (2020, 2023) and research presentation quality (2022–2023). Her 2020 paper on women’s help-seeking behaviors was named Global Qualitative Nursing Research Journal’s ‘2020 Paper of the Year’ by SAGE Publishers.
**Service & Leadership**: Chairs the Faculty of Nursing Research Day Committee, serves on the Ethics Committee, and participates in community roles like Board Member of the John Howard Society and Provincial Suicide Fatality Committee in New Brunswick.
