Petra Uhlmann

Dr. Petra Uhlmann serves as Head of the Nanostructured Materials Department at the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden (IPF), a leading German research institution specializing in polymer science. Her work bridges fundamental surface science with practical applications in coatings, biointerfaces, and nanotechnology.

Her research focuses on nanostructured surfaces and thin films, with particular expertise in polymer brushes, intelligent adaptive surfaces, and physical chemistry of interfaces. She investigates surface functionalization techniques, coatings technology, adsorption phenomena on polymer surfaces, and characterization methods for nanoscale interfaces. Her work extends to nano/micro fluidics, biointerfaces, sensors, and nanocatalysts, demonstrating a multidisciplinary approach spanning materials science, chemistry, and engineering.

Dr. Uhlmann holds significant leadership positions including Chair of the board "Combined Surface Technology" representing four German coatings associations (DFO, DGO, Inplas, EFDS), membership on the scientific board of Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft für Oberflächenbehandlung (DFO), and participation in the "Functional Surfaces" cooperation network (fotec).

As an active scientific contributor, she serves as reviewer for AiF (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Industrieller Forschung), National Science Foundation (NSF), and over 15 major journals from ACS, Wiley VCH, Elsevier, and Springer in materials science and physico-chemistry. She teaches courses on Physiko-Chemistry of Interfaces and Protein Adsorption, demonstrating her commitment to academic education alongside research leadership.
