Petra Surynková is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague. She holds a Ph.D. in mathematics and specializes in computational geometry, descriptive geometry, and mathematics education.
Her educational background includes a Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) from Charles University (2008-2014), a Master's degree (2006-2008), and a Bachelor's degree (2003-2006), all from Charles University's Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. She also completed her grammar school education in Vlašim.
Dr. Surynková's research focuses on computational geometry, descriptive geometry, and computer graphics, with special interests in curves and surfaces in computer graphics, surface reconstruction from point clouds, and mathematical software applications in teaching. She has developed extensive expertise in geometric modeling software including Rhinoceros, AutoCAD, and GeoGebra.
Her professional activities include significant conference participation across Europe and North America, with presentations at events such as the International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching and the GeoGebra Global Gathering. She has organized numerous workshops for high school teachers on dynamic geometry applications.
- Fulbright Scholar at Florida Atlantic University (2017-2018)
- Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the EXAMPLE project at Johannes Kepler University (2015-2016)
- Chair of The GeoGebra Institute of Prague (2015-present)
As an educator, she supervises bachelor's and diploma theses on descriptive, computational and applied geometry topics, and has created numerous teaching materials for geometry education. She teaches courses on descriptive geometry, computational geometry, and surfaces of constructions at Charles University.
