Petra Korall is an Associate Professor at the Department of Organismal Biology; Systematic Biology at Uppsala University. Her academic merits include a PhD, Docent title, and recognition as an Excellent Teacher. She serves as Director of Studies, focusing on pedagogical development in addition to her research.
Her research centers on the systematics, evolution, and historical biogeography of ferns and lycopods. Key topics include Selaginella phylogeny, Cretaceous-era fern diversity, and Gondwanan biogeographic patterns. She teaches plant diversity, evolution, and phylogenetic analysis, integrating morphological and molecular approaches.
Recent work highlights studies of Cretaceous amber-preserved Selaginella fossils, taxonomic classifications for ferns and lycophytes, and proposals to conserve Selaginella nomenclature. Her articles reflect deep integration of fossil records, genomic data, and biogeographic modeling to understand plant evolution.
- Awards: PhD (Uppsala University), Docent title, Excellent Teacher Award
- Professional Roles: Director of Studies, Senior Lecturer
- Key Focus Areas: Fern systematics, morphological phylogenetics, Cenozoic dispersal patterns
