معرفی
Prof. Peter van der Meer is a Full Professor in Cardiology and Chair of Experimental Cardiology at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), affiliated with the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences. His expertise spans clinical and translational cardiology, with a focus on heart failure mechanisms, cardio-oncology, and therapeutic innovation.
Education:
- Medical Doctor (cum laude) and PhD in Medicine (cum laude), University of Groningen (2002-2005)
- Post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University (2007-2008)
- Residency in Cardiology at Deventer Hospital and UMCG (2005-2011)
Research Interests: Prof. van der Meer's work bridges basic science and clinical practice, addressing heart failure pathophysiology, novel therapies (e.g., antisense oligonucleotides, gene therapy), and cardio-oncology challenges. Key areas include iron deficiency management, amyloidosis, and translational -omics approaches.
Grants & Leadership: He leads major grants including ERC Consolidator (DISSECT-HF) and Starting (STOP-HF) Grants, and chairs multinational trials like eSCAPE-HF and AMYLO-TAVR. He is President-elect of the ESC Council of Cardio-Oncology and serves on multiple steering committees (e.g., AFFIRM-AHF, DIAMOND-HF).
Awards: ESC Fellow, NWO-Vidi grant recipient, and author of ~350 publications with an H-index of 78. His work has advanced understanding of cardiac metabolism and therapeutic targets in heart failure.
Labs/Teams: Directs the Experimental Cardiology group at UMCG, collaborating internationally on projects like GEREMY (EU-funded) and CVON-ReconNext (Dutch Heart Foundation).
