Professor Peter van Ooijen is Scientific Researcher and Professor at Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen. He coordinates the Machine Learning Lab at Data Science Center in Health (DASH) and serves as Theme Coordinator for Digital Healthcare at Jantina Tammes School.
His research develops AI applications for medical imaging including radiological segmentation, prognostic modeling, treatment planning, and toxicity prediction. Projects focus on deep learning for oncology applications in radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging.
As President of the European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics, he promotes AI integration in radiology practice. He leads research projects on 3D visualization for surgical planning, AI-based radiological biomarker development, and federated learning implementations.
