Peter White is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology and Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University. He holds a PhD from McGill University (2011) and teaches courses in insect genetics and pedagogy. His research focuses on urban moth ecology, exploring how habitat changes impact moth biodiversity, and designing low-cost research tools like LED-based moth traps. White also leads education initiatives such as the MothEd project, integrating K-12 students into authentic ecological research. He has received awards for teaching excellence, including recognition from the North Central States Entomologists in 2018.
His work bridges ecological research with educational outreach, emphasizing community engagement through science units in schools. Current projects include investigating moth assemblage dynamics and developing curricula for evolutionary medicine (EvoMedEd) and connected biology concepts (ConnectedBio). White collaborates with institutions like the Smithsonian and NSF-funded initiatives to advance science education and biodiversity studies.
