Peter Wells is an Adjunct Professor in the Marine Affairs Program and the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University, as well as a Senior Research Fellow at the International Ocean Institute. He holds a BSc in Biology (McGill University, 1967), MSc in Zoology (University of Toronto, 1969), and PhD in Zoology/Aquatic Toxicology (University of Guelph, 1976).
Research Interests: Dr. Wells focuses on coastal ecosystem health indicators, blue mussel-based contaminant monitoring, and the application of marine environmental data in policy. His work spans ecotoxicology, environmental risk assessment, and land-based marine pollution. He actively supervises graduate students in marine affairs and environmental informatics.
Awards and Affiliations: He is a Fellow of the AAAS and RCGS. His community roles include Chair of the Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership (BOFEP) and membership in its working groups.
Professional History: Retired from Environment Canada after 34 years (last role: Head, Coastal and Water Science), he also served the UN GESAMP for 14 years, taught at Dalhousie since 1983, and led an international marine pollution course in Bermuda for 16 years. He has authored ~300 publications.
