معرفی
Peter Weisberg is a Professor in the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Science at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). His research focuses on landscape dynamics, particularly in arid and semi-arid ecosystems, with an emphasis on climate change impacts, vegetation responses to disturbance, and ecological resilience. He leads the Weisberg Lab, which integrates field studies, remote sensing, and ecological modeling to address natural resource management challenges.
Education:
- B.S., 1992, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (Forest Biology)
- M.S., 1994, University of Wyoming (Biogeography)
- Ph.D., 1998, Oregon State University (Forest Ecology)
Research Interests: Weisberg’s work spans treeline dynamics, fire-climate-vegetation interactions, invasive species management, and the application of geospatial tools (GIS, remote sensing) to ecological questions. His lab has a geographic focus on the Great Basin and eastern Sierra Nevada, though international projects (e.g., Mekong River Basin, European Alps) also feature prominently.
Advising & Grants: While no specific advisees are listed, the lab’s collaborative projects imply active mentorship of graduate students. Funding sources include USDA Forest Service and international conservation initiatives. Recent projects include studies on woodland resilience, mercury pollution in tree rings, and post-fire vegetation recovery.
Labs/Teams: The Weisberg Lab collaborates with institutions globally, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches to ecological challenges. Key themes include climate adaptation, land-use legacies, and the integration of paleoecological data with modern monitoring.
