Peter W. Lehn is a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Manitoba (1990, 1992) and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto (1999). His career includes industry experience at Siemens AG and a visiting professorship at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Professor Lehn leads research in power electronics and energy systems, focusing on three primary areas:
- Electrified Transportation: Developing advanced wireless charging systems, dual-inverter drives, and integrated EV power architectures
- Renewables Integration: Creating power conversion solutions for renewable energy and storage technologies
- Grid Resiliency: Designing control strategies for inverter-dominated power grids
His recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on electric vehicle charging innovations (wireless power transfer, integrated chargers), modular multilevel converters for DC applications, and dual-inverter drivetrain technologies. This reflects a consistent focus on high-efficiency power conversion for sustainable transportation and grid applications.
Honors include recognition as an IEEE Senior Member and editorial service for IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion (2013-2020).
Professor Lehn actively mentors graduate researchers, with current and former students including doctoral candidates in energy systems and power electronics. His laboratory develops solutions advancing power conversion efficiency and system integration for sustainable energy applications.
