Peter Verhaert is a Lecturer at KU Leuven, affiliated with the Translational Cell and Tissue Research unit. He is also a member of the KU Leuven Brain Institute (LBI).
Research Interests include:
- Peptidomics and mass spectrometry for peptide discovery (e.g., venom/toxin characterization)
- Metabolomics and spatial imaging techniques (e.g., MALDI-HRMS for FFPE tissues)
- Physiology and biochemistry of invertebrates (e.g., mosquito digestion, spider fucosidases)
- Neuropathology in mental health (e.g., hippocampal changes in suicide)
- Environmental microbiology (e.g., methanol-degrading bacteria in subsurface environments)
Recent Publications highlight his expertise in mass spectrometry applications, peptidomics, and interdisciplinary studies in physiology and pharmacology.
