Dr. Peter Tom Jones is a Researcher at KU Leuven and serves as the Director of the KU Leuven Institute for Sustainable Metals and Minerals (SIM²), an interdisciplinary research hub with over 400 experts. His work focuses on the sustainable processing of metals crucial for clean energy systems, including lithium, cobalt/nickel, and rare earth elements.

His research spans 30 years, emphasizing the intersection of environmentalism and metallurgy. He has authored or co-authored 40 European projects and seven books on climate and environmental crises, including Het Klimaatboek and Terra Reversa. Since 2022, he has directed documentaries exploring the link between metals and the climate transition, such as Europe’s Mining Renaissance and Europe’s Lithium Paradox.
