Peter Taylor is a Professor of Atmospheric Science at York University's Lassonde School of Engineering (Department of Earth and Space Science & Engineering). He has held this position since 1988 and concurrently works with Zephyr North, a wind energy consultancy. Previously, he was a senior research scientist at Environment Canada and taught at the University of Toronto and University of Southampton.
His research focuses on boundary-layer meteorology, climate, and weather, with specialties in renewable energy (wind farms, marine fog dynamics), sub-seasonal forecasting, and atmospheric modeling. Notable contributions include the Askervein Hill study (1982/83) and leadership in Lake Erie wind farm impact studies. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society and recipient of the 1998 Patterson Distinguished Service Medal.
He serves on the Boundary-Layer Meteorology editorial board since 1971, including co-chief editorship (1995–2010). His work integrates numerical models with field data, emphasizing applications like radar-based snowfall estimation and highway turbulence analysis. Collaborative projects include the CANISTEO and ALLE-CATT wind farm icing risk analyses.
