Peter St. Jean is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at North Park University. His work focuses on reducing suffering and improving quality of life through criminology, sociology, and community engagement. He has been part of the university since 2015 and actively integrates teaching, research, and nonprofit initiatives.
- Education: PhD in Criminology and Sociology from the University of Chicago, MA in Criminology from Simon Fraser University, and BA & BS in Sociology from St. John’s University, New York.
Research Interests: St. Jean’s research spans criminology, sociology, and social justice. He emphasizes community-based approaches to crime prevention, analyzes police-community dynamics, and explores Caribbean criminology. His work bridges theoretical critique with practical solutions.
Publications: His scholarship includes empirical studies on crime prevention, critiques of criminological theory, and analyses of community-police relations, primarily focused on urban and Caribbean contexts.
Professional Involvement: He is a member of the American Sociological Association, Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, American Society of Criminology, and Division on People of Color and Crime. He also founded North Park’s student Criminal Justice Club.
