معرفی
Peter Skands is a Professor at the School of Physics and Astronomy, Monash University. He holds expertise in Theoretical High Energy Physics, Particle Physics Phenomenology, and Quantum Chromodynamics. His research focuses on Monte Carlo event generators like PYTHIA and VINCIA, with contributions to collider physics and computational methods. Skands has held positions at CERN (2009–2014) and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (2004–2009).
Education: PhD in Theoretical Physics from Lund University (2004), Cand. Scient. in Physics (2001). Research interests include QCD, parton showers, and Monte Carlo modeling for LHC and future colliders like FCC.
His work emphasizes precision physics, including studies of hadronization, jet fragmentation, and dark matter searches. Collaborations span LHC@home, MCnetITN3, and the PYTHIA/VINCIA frameworks. Key projects include 'Tackling the computational bottleneck in precision particle physics' (2022–2026) and 'Emergent phenomena in quantum chromodynamics' (2017–2020).
Skands has received awards such as the Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship (2023), ARC Future Fellowship (2014), and CERN’s Extraordinary Service Award (2014). His research integrates citizen science, computational sustainability, and interdisciplinary physics.
Advising: Supervises PhD projects on Monte Carlo models for LHC, bremsstrahlung cascades, QCD strings, and resonance decays. Grants include ARC funding for computational projects. Active in volunteer computing (LHC@home/Test4Theory).
Labs/Teams: Leads Monash’s theoretical particle physics group, collaborating internationally on PYTHIA development and FCC studies. Engages in cross-disciplinary efforts like MCnetITN3 for training the next generation of computational physicists.
