Peter Savage is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Chicago, focusing on the regulation of immune tolerance and anti-tumor immunity. His research program investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in cancer and autoimmunity.
- PhD in Cancer Biology from Stanford University (2000)
- Postdoctoral training at University of California Berkeley (2004) and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (2009)
- BS in Biochemistry from University of Virginia (1993)
Major research projects include:
- Development and function of tumor-associated Tregs
- Antigen specificity in thymus-derived Tregs
- Role of Aire in immune tolerance
- Dendritic cell interactions with Tregs
His publications (15 most recent) span topics in Treg biology, tumor immunology, and autoimmune disease mechanisms, with keywords including Immunology, Oncology, Cell Biology, and Autoimmune Diseases. Notable awards include the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Fund Postdoctoral Fellowship, Cancer Research Foundation Young Investigator Award, and Cancer Research Institute Investigator Award.
Current research funding from NIH includes grants for studies on B cell-dependent Tregs, IL-10-producing Tr1 cells, and Treg suppression specificity during infections. He leads the Savage Lab, mentoring doctoral candidates in the University of Chicago's Committee on Immunology.
