Dr. Peter Ruggendorfer is a Senior Research Associate at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), based in Vienna. His affiliation includes the Archaeological Institute, where he contributes to interdisciplinary research projects focused on Roman archaeology and virtual reconstruction. His work integrates field excavation data with digital methodologies to explore ancient urban contexts and ritual spaces.
Key research initiatives include investigations into the Case a Giardino in Ostia (Roman housing complexes), funerary practices (Banquet and Grave), and sacred lodging structures (Lodging/Living in a Sacred Context). He also collaborates on the Alinda project, exploring Hellenistic/Roman sites in Turkey. His expertise spans archaeological fieldwork, 3D modeling, and historical contextualization of architectural remains.
Currently based at the Dominikanerbastei 16 location in Vienna, Ruggendorfer actively participates in the ÖAW's international excavation teams and publishes on Mediterranean archaeology. He holds a doctoral degree (Mag. Dr.) and maintains an affiliation with the Austrian Archaeological Institute's research network.
