Peter Mowrey is a Professor of Music at the College of Wooster, holding the Neille O. and Gertrude M. Rowe Professorship in Music. He specializes in composition, electronic music, and film studies. His academic roles include teaching music theory, composition, piano, and electronic music since 1997. From 2016 to 2019, he served as Dean for Faculty Development.
He earned a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and a Master of Music in composition from the University of Georgia, followed by a Doctor of Music from Indiana University.
Mowrey’s creative work spans chamber and electronic music, often inspired by mythological themes. Notable compositions include the electronic opera Sangreal and Scars for violin and piano. He has arranged orchestral works for artists like Styx and Yes, featured in performances worldwide.
As a pianist, he recorded the complete solo piano works of Dimitri Kabalevsky, the only such collection available. His writings include two books: Award Winning Films (1994) and The Hero’s Trail (2023), exploring film history and mythology. He is currently working on The Wild Frontier, a sequel to his second book.
Mowrey’s interdisciplinary work bridges music, technology, and film, emphasizing cultural and historical narratives.
