Peter Moseley is a Vice Chancellor's Senior Research Fellow in the Psychology Department at Northumbria University, where he joined in 2019. His research focuses on understanding the cognitive and neural basis of auditory hallucinations in both clinical and non-clinical populations, with particular interest in psychosis and psychotic-like experiences. His work bridges cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, and cultural perspectives on voice-hearing phenomena.
Peter earned his BSc in Psychology (2010), MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience (2011), and PhD in Psychology (2014) from Durham University. Prior to his current position, he held a lectureship at the University of Central Lancashire (2015-2016) where he taught Psychology and Neuroscience courses, and was on secondment to Durham University (2016-2019) working on hallucination research projects.
Moseley's research program investigates the intersection between sleep dysfunction and hallucinations, spiritual aspects of voice-hearing, and cognitive mechanisms underlying auditory hallucinations across the psychosis spectrum. His work explores how cognitive control processes, mental imagery, and neural pathways contribute to hallucinatory experiences in both clinical and non-clinical populations.
