Peter McFawn

Associate Professor Peter McFawn is a faculty member at the School of Human Sciences, University of Western Australia. He holds a BSc and PhD from UWA and completed a research fellowship at Queen's University, Canada. His primary research focuses on respiratory physiology, particularly airway smooth muscle mechanics and their role in conditions like asthma and COPD. He teaches courses in physiology at UWA's Perth and Singapore campuses, including advanced cellular physiology and physiological control mechanisms. Current research projects include studying computer-controlled muscle oscillations, cellular components of stress responses, and COPD-induced airway damage. Collaborators include Prof. Howard Mitchell and clinicians at Charles Gardener Hospital.

His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. Over 49 research outputs and 7 grants highlight his work in pulmonary physiology and muscle dysfunction. He has supervised one PhD project on COPD comparison studies and maintains active collaborations across multiple institutions.
