Dr. Peter Macmillan is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Business School of the University of St Andrews. His research focuses on monetary and financial economics, particularly the term structure of interest rates, monetary policy frameworks, and the impact of macroeconomic conditions on asset prices. He holds qualifications including an MA (Hons), MSc, and PhD.
Key research interests include testing the expectations hypothesis of the yield curve, analyzing central bank behavior and its influence on inflation, and exploring how macroeconomic variables like interest rates and money supply affect stock markets. He is actively involved in supervising postgraduate research students, with projects examining term structure shocks, interest rate bounds, and international asset price dynamics.
Macmillan has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and served on the ESRC review panel (2001–2006). His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals aimed at economic stability and prosperity.
