Peter Lye

Peter Lye is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of New England's School of Science and Technology. He completed his PhD in inorganic chemistry at the University of Newcastle and served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Université de Lausanne, Switzerland, where he specialized in reaction mechanism elucidation using stopped-flow techniques. His career includes industrial research on cyanide management in gold processing through the A.J. Parker CRC for Hydrometallurgy. At UNE, he has held leadership roles including Convenor of Chemistry, Deputy Head of School, and Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science program.

His research focuses on solution chemistry, particularly reaction kinetics and thermodynamics of environmentally and industrially significant systems. Key interests include:

• Application of stopped-flow techniques for mechanistic studies
• Optical sensor technology for remote monitoring
• Effects of high electrolyte concentrations on solution dynamics

Dr. Lye received the Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute award (2017) for his contributions to the field. He maintains active research collaborations and has supervised multiple graduate students in chemistry and materials science.
