Peter L. Rudnytsky is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Florida, holding a unique dual expertise as a Renaissance scholar and practicing psychoanalyst. He earned degrees from Columbia, Cambridge, and Yale, and is a graduate of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute with an active clinical practice.
His research bridges sixteenth and seventeenth-century literature—particularly Shakespeare and Milton—with psychoanalytic theory. Recent publications include Formulated Experiences: Hidden Realities and Emergent Meanings from Shakespeare to Fromm (2019), Mutual Analysis: Ferenczi, Severn, and the Origins of Trauma Theory (2021), and the forthcoming Psychoanalysis and the Patriarchal Tradition: Augustine to Milton.
Professor Rudnytsky edits Routledge's History of Psychoanalysis series and co-edits Bloomsbury's Psychoanalytic Horizons series. He holds multiple leadership roles in the American Psychoanalytic Association, including Head of Academic and Professional Affairs and Chair of the Committee on Psychoanalysis and the Academy.
