معرفی
Dr. Peter Kuipers Munneke is an Assistant Professor in Glaciology and Polar Meteorology at the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU), part of Utrecht University's Faculty of Science. His research focuses on firn dynamics, ice sheet stability, and polar meteorology, with a strong emphasis on Antarctica and Greenland. He coordinates a research group studying firn processes and their role in climate adaptation and sea-level rise.
Research Interests:
- Glaciology and firn processes
- Climate modeling of polar regions
- Ice shelf stability and meltwater dynamics
- Satellite remote sensing applications
- Climate change impacts on polar ice sheets
Key Projects:
- Development of the IMAU-FDM firn model
- Mapping Antarctic blue ice areas via MODIS (FABIAN product)
- Investigating firn aquifers and their climatic drivers
- Assessing future melt trends under climate scenarios
Advising & Grants:
Dr. Kuipers Munneke leads projects funded by the Netherlands Polar Programme and the EU's ice2sea initiative. His work involves field campaigns (e.g., Larsen C Ice Shelf studies in 2011) and collaborations with institutions like the British Antarctic Survey.
Labs & Teams:
Based at IMAU, he contributes to interdisciplinary teams addressing global warming's impact on polar regions.
