Peter Kochenburger is a Visiting Professor of Law at the Southern University Law Center (SULC). Previously, he served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Law at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he also directed the Insurance Law LLM program and Insurance Law Center. He specializes in teaching Torts, insurance regulation, and related courses. His research focuses on consumer protection, Big Data in insurance, gun liability, and climate change impacts on insurance.
He holds a Yale University degree and a Harvard Law School JD. Before academia, he worked as counsel at Travelers Property Casualty for 11 years, managed litigation and regulatory affairs, and served as an Iowa Assistant Attorney General enforcing consumer credit laws. He also advised Harvard Law School’s Dean’s Office.
Kochenburger serves on key insurance regulatory bodies: Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (Treasury Dept.), Federal Reserve Board’s Insurance Policy Advisory Committee, New York DFS Consumer Protection Task Force, and International Association of Insurance Supervisors. His 2013 election to the American Law Institute highlights his scholarly contributions.
His publications span books and articles on global insurance regulation, cyber risks, and policy transparency. Notable works include *The “Dematerialized” Insurance* (2016) and articles on gun liability insurance and climate adaptation strategies.
